Overview

Ad Transcribe is a browser extension that transcribes video ads on the Facebook Ads Library. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

Data We Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our own servers. Ad Transcribe has no backend server, no analytics, and no tracking.

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API:

• OpenAI API key — You provide this to enable transcription. It is stored in your browser's synced storage and is never sent anywhere except directly to the OpenAI API.
• Language preference — Your selected transcription language setting.

You can remove all stored data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing its data in Chrome settings.

Data Sent to Third Parties

When you click the "Transcribe" button on a video ad, the extension:

• Downloads the video from Facebook's content delivery network (CDN) directly in your browser.
• Sends the video to the OpenAI Whisper API (api.openai.com) for transcription, authenticated with your own API key.

The video data is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI. It is not routed through any intermediary server. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy.

No data is sent to any other third party.

Permissions

• storage — To save your API key and language preference locally.
• activeTab — To interact with the Facebook Ads Library page you are viewing.
• Host access to facebook.com — To run the content script that adds the Transcribe button on the Ads Library page.
• Host access to fbcdn.net — To download video files from Facebook's CDN for transcription.
• Host access to api.openai.com — To send video data to the Whisper transcription API.

Data Retention

Transcription results are held in memory only for the duration of your browser session. They are not written to disk or sent to any server. Once you close or refresh the tab, cached transcriptions are gone.

If this policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
